Empowering the Next Generation of Therapists of Color

Therapists of Color Scholarship

The mental health industry is in need of transformation. A staggering reality: only 5% of the psychology workforce identifies as Black or multiracial. This disparity directly impacts the mental health care accessible to communities of color, where stigma often prevents individuals from seeking the help they need.

Our scholarship fund aims to bridge this gap by supporting aspiring therapists of color. By alleviating the financial burden of unpaid internships, we empower these future mental health professionals to pursue their passions and serve their communities.

By increasing the number of providers that people in these communities can identify with, we can slowly decrease stigma and increase cultural competency in the mental health system.

Becoming a licensed mental health professional is a rigorous journey, demanding years of education, training, and immense dedication. For therapists of color, additional hurdles often arise. The requirement of completing hundreds of unpaid internship hours during graduate school poses a significant financial challenge, hindering many from achieving their goals.

About the Livingston Williams Scholarship Fund

The Livingston Williams Scholarship Fund was created in honor of Asia’s grandparents, Gussie (Livingston) and Hydrick Williams. The Livingston and Williams families instilled the core values of service, compassion and perseverance that ultimately led to the creation of Zola Counseling Solutions, PLLC and the Zola Counseling Foundation. Without them, the dream to serve others in the community would not have been nurtured. We pay homage to them by continuing to pour into others who desire to serve their communities.

Zola Counseling Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Delaware, EIN 87-2364346. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
