What are you doing to protect the safety of your clients during COVID-19?

We take the safety and well-being of our clients and staff seriously. We also understand the impact of “Zoom Fatigue”. We offer a hybrid of in-person and virtual options for all services we currently offer. In-person appointments will require a mask. All areas are sanitized thoroughly between appointments and in-person appointment times are spaced out to minimize risk of transmission.

Online Therapy FAQs

What is telemental health?

Telemental health goes by many names. It is often referred to as distance counseling, online counseling, telebehavioral health, telemental health, virtual therapy – the list goes on! Overall, these terms refer to receiving therapy/counseling via video or chat. Telehealth has been around for decades and has been been proven to be just as effective as traditional in-person services.

Is Telemental health right for me?

  • Are you primarily located in Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia?

  • Are you comfortable with and have access to reliable internet/WiFi and either a computer/tablet or smartphone?

  • Do you need flexible therapy?

  • Do you have a space that would be private and quiet for 50 minutes to an hour?

  • If you answered yes to these questions, you may be a great candidate for telemental health.

What are the benefits of using telemental health?

Telemental health is a mobile and fast way to seek therapy services and make the time for your self-care and your journey to wellness. It is beneficial for those with busy schedules, transportation challenges, those in need of flexible scheduling and those who live in remote areas with limited access to services. Additionally, it is also beneficial for those with chronic illnesses, in final trimester of pregnancy and/or those who may be bedridden or homebound for one reason or another.

What are the potential risks to using telemental health?

Like traditional in-person therapy, there are potential risks associated with online counseling. Sometimes, the therapeutic process can bring about uncomfortable feelings as you work through and process feelings and unresolved trauma. This means that at times, your symptoms may worsen and/or you may feel new symptoms as you work to find a resolve. There are also times when the technology could fail and if you know that failing technology can be extremely frustrating for you, it’s important to consider that in making your decision to receive online counseling. Although I make every effort to protect your data and confidentiality, there is always a potential risk that data could be hacked, like with any other online service.

Is Telemental health confidential?

We use an encrypted, HIPAA-secure web portal for telelmental health sessions. At the start time of session, you will go to the link in your appointment confirmation email, which will take you to a secure ‘virtual therapy room’ that will feel similar to Skype or Facetime, but provides a higher level of privacy and security. Confidentiality of sessions is treated the same way that it is for in-person therapy.

How Much Does It Cost?

For a list of our fees and rates, click here. Telemental health is sometimes reimbursed by insurance depending on the company, policy and plan. It is highly recommended that you call the member services number on the back of your insurance card to determine if they may reimburse you for telemental health services. At this time, we are ‘in-network’ with several insurance companies. If the provider you want to work with is not in-network with your plan, many insurance companies reimburse for out-of-network providers and we are able to provide the necessary paperwork (called a superbill) to assist in that process. We recommend using Reimbursify to submit out-of-network claims.
